The Local Plan for Southampton will provide a strategy for growth over the next 15 years, guiding where new homes, employment areas, infrastructure and facilities will be delivered to achieve growth and prosperity in the city while protecting and enhancing the local environment
On the 26th June 2026 Southampton City Council gave notice of its intention to commence preparation of the Southampton Local Plan.
Southampton City Council also published its Local Plan timetable, confirming that the first stage of consultation (the scoping stage) will begin on the 7th September 2026. This stage will seek views on the key issues the plan should address, what it should contain, and how the Council should engage with communities and stakeholders.
The timetable also sets out a submission date of the 11th of September 2028 to the Planning Inspectorate, with an indicative date of adoption targeted for the 21st of March 2029.
