On the 27th of May, Cabinet resolved that Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole [“BCP”] Council will formally issue its notice of intention to commence local plan preparation under the new plan-making system. The Local Plan for BCP will provide a strategy for growth over the next 15 years, guiding where new homes, jobs, community facilities and infrastructure will be delivered and helping to ensure development takes place in the right locations.
BCP Council has also published its Local Plan timetable, confirming that the first stage of consultation (the scoping stage) will begin on the 15th of June 2026. This stage will seek views on the key issues the plan should address, what it should contain, and how the Council should engage with communities and stakeholders.
The timetable also sets out a submission date of the 26th of May 2028 to the Planning Inspectorate, with an indicative date of adoption targeted for the 31st of January 2029.
A further brownfield call for sites will be undertaken in parallel although sites previously promoted will be carried forward.
