New Forest District Council has commenced the formal consultation process for its emerging Local Plan with the publication of the Issues and Scope Document, which is open for public comment from 17th February until 4th April 2025. This initial document provides an opportunity to comment on what the Council’s main priorities should be and suggest solutions to challenges faced by New Forest District Council. The Council has also organised a series of seven public drop-in events across key settlements through February and early March, providing opportunity to engage directly with planning officers and contribute to shaping the district’s future development strategy. This consultation will also be running concurrent to a further Call for Sites, following the closure of the previous call in December 2024.
“This initial consultation represents a critical opportunity for landowners, developers and local communities to influence the emerging Local Plan at its formative stage,” states Jonathan Leigh, Senior Planner at Chapman Lily Planning. “With housing delivery pressures continuing to increase for New Forest District, this consultation provides a timely platform to identify sustainable development opportunities that can contribute positively to meeting local housing and employment needs while respecting the district’s distinctive environmental characteristics.”
