Independent examiner Andrew Mead BSc (Hons) MRTPI MIQ has issued his examination report on the Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan 2021-2038, confirming that subject to recommended policy modifications, the Plan meets the Basic Conditions and following modifications should proceed to referendum. The Plan, submitted to Dorset Council in December 2024 following over give years of community preparation, received 588 responses during its extended Regulation 16 consultation period from January to April 2025. Chapman Lily Planning actively monitors neighbourhood planning processes across the region, having also engaged with emerging plans including Marnhull’s Neighbourhood Plan and the recently launched Lymington and Pennington consultation, and are committed to tracking local planning developments that shape the context for development across neighbouring towns and parishes.
“This recommendation represents a significant milestone for Weymouth’s planning future and demonstrates the value of neighbourhood planning processes,” states Jonathan Leigh, Associate Director at Chapman Lily Planning. “The examiner’s positive findings, particularly noting the thorough consultation approach and community engagement undertaken over multiple phases, provide a strong foundation for local planning decision-making. Our active monitoring of neighbourhood plans across the region, from established processes like Weymouth’s to emerging ones such as Marnhull’s, ensures we maintain professional awareness of local planning policies that influence development strategies.”
