The Burton & Winkton Neighbourhood Plan is now out for consultation with comments invited until 18th October. When finalised, it will have the official status of being part of the “development plan” for the area, to be used by BCP (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council) to determine planning applications.
In terms of the geographical extent of the Parish boundary, the River Avon lies to the west, and the New Forest National Park lies to the east. The parish covers just over 3.3 square miles (8½ square kilometres) and contains the village of Burton and the hamlets of Winkton, Bockhampton and Holfleet, interspersed with open farmland. The neighbouring villages Bransgore and Sopley lie just beyond the parish to the north and north-east, and the town of Christchurch is to the south and east.
Director Giles Moir commented; it is evident that a lot of hard work and thought has gone into producing what is a very detailed and well-illustrated document. The draft plan outlines potential development opportunities and areas where important gaps and green spaces need to be retained. We will look to comment upon the proposals mindful of clients’ interests.
