Bournemouth Borough Council will be asked to agree a programme for the preparation of a new Local Plan next week.
It is proposed that a new, consolidated, Bournemouth Local Plan be prepared to replace the existing Core Strategy, Town Centre Area Action Plan and Affordable Housing DPD. It will also include site allocation and development management policies; thus steering the location of new development in the years ahead.
Under the programme, the Council would work with stakeholders to assemble an evidence base and there will undoubtedly be a ‘call for sites’ in due course, which will be of interest to forward thinking developers and landowners alike. Contact Chapman Lily Planning to find out how we can help promote your site(s) and represent you at key consultation stages. Public consultation on issues and options is tabled for June / July 2017 and if all goes smoothly the plan could be adopted by summer 2019.
The accompanying report notes that proposed planning documents will ‘further the Council priorities …’; in particular delivering active communities, environmental improvements and a thriving economy. Chapman Lily Planning welcome the proposals for a new Local Plan, as parts of the adopted Core Strategy (2012) now look a little dated in light of events on the ground and new Government initiatives. However the timeframe may prove ambitious, particularly given the backdrop of a potential merger with neighbouring authorities.
