Bath and North East Somerset Council has published its Local Plan Options Document 2025 as part of the agenda for their Cabinet meeting on Thursday 25th September. The Cabinet meeting seeks approval to launch the reset Local Plan Options Document public consultation which will run from 3rd October 2025 to 14th November 2025.
They launched the preparation of their new local plan in 2022 based on planning for 717 homes per year. However, changes to National Planning Policy in 2024 and the introduction of the standard method of housing need have more than doubled this housing target to 1,466 homes per year. With this 104% increase in housing need, Bath and North East Somerset Council decided to reset the local plan sin order to undertake further evidence work and assess further options for providing the necessary increased levels of development.
The document retains sites from the first Call for Sites that took place prior to the reset (February – April 2024) and includes the second Call for Sites, which ran from February – March 2025. The sites promoted within the document represent those which may be considered for allocation under the emerging Local Plan for Bath and North East Somerset.
