The BCP Local Plan will set out a strategy for how much, where and what type of development will take place across the BCP area until 2039. It will also provide detailed planning policies and site allocations to guide future new development. The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedule is a locally set charge applied to new developments to help fund infrastructure that is needed to support development in the BCP area.
The Council will be consulting upon these two documents shortly after 19 March 2024 for a period of 6 weeks.
The drafts were approved for consultation by Council on 9 January 2024. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was updated in December 2023. Transitional arrangements (NPPF para 230) means the Council must consult after the 19 March 2024 to be able to take the new NPPF into account in the examination process. Following the public consultation the Council will submit the documents to the Secretary of State for examination. The examination is expected to take 12 months.
Associate Director Clare Spiller commented; ‘These are key documents affecting the future of all forms of development in the BCP area – not just dwellings, and the CIL charging scheme will impact upon the financial viability of proposals. We will be examining and commenting upon these proposals when published in March.’
