Following several years of preparation, Swindon Borough Council has published the pre-submission draft version of its local plan review for consultation. This is the final stage of public engagement before the plan is submitted to the Secretary of State for examination. Speaking on the consultation, Steve Tapscott, Associate Director at Chapman Lily, said: ‘the draft plan contains ambitious targets to deliver 21,600 new homes in various new allocations, which are proving controversial locally. However, the Council makes clear the dangers of not having a five-year housing land supply and putting the borough at risk of speculative planning applications for developments without the Council’s support. It is good to see the Council adopting a proactive approach and seeking to meet its own needs within the borough’.
