The Secretary of State, Michael Gove, delivered a speech (19 December 2023) at the RIBA building in London. He announced that Sam Richards of ‘Britain Remade,’ will be appointed to lead a quick-fire review of statutory consultees in order to speed up the planning system.
Clare Spiller (Associate Director) welcomed the review. She explained; ‘frequently, planning officers and applicants are kept waiting for responses from statutory consultees – it is good that the government have spotted this issue, and the frustration and delay to the planning system it causes. Hopefully, the review will result in a requirement to require a swift turn around response within nationally set out timescales.’
