Alongside their proposed draft new local plan Poole have also published a proposed set of revised Community Infrastructure Levy (‘CIL’) charges. At present, the levy is billed in Poole at a rate of £75, £100 or £150 a square metre for new residential development, with the majority of the Borough falling within the £75 zone. The proposed revised rates would be £60 per square metre for the town centre, and £100 per square metre for areas such as Hamworthy, Creekmoor, Canford Heath and Branksome. The new higher rate of £200 per square metre is proposed to apply to Canford Cliffs and Parkstone as well as the northern parts of the Borough of Broadstone and Merley. Therefore, levy payments on new residential development generally look set to increase with the exception of the town centre area.
The draft revised charging schedule will be considered at the meeting of the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee on the 21st of June and if approved will be subject to public consultation due to take place over the summer.
