Following Government consultation at the beginning of the year, the changes to permitted development (PD) rights in England are to be introduced on the 26th of July, highlighting further flexibility for temporary buildings and uses, and clarifying the procedure for prior approval under Class BC. PD rights are also to be amended in relation to the use of land for camping and filmmaking, temporary recreational campsites, non-domestic extensions and alterations, and local authority works.
Clare Bolton, Assistant Planner at Chapman Lily Planning commented: ‘The extension of PD rights will allow landowners to generate additional income, such as fields being put into a temporary, alternative use, without needing full planning permission. The Government is also supporting the UK’s film industry, making it easier to use existing buildings and land for filming purposes.’
