New Forest District Council has published a summary document of its new Draft Local Plan. At a report to the Council’s Environment and Scrutiny Panel the Council Officers set out their draft proposals for the new Local Plan, which includes suggested strategic development sites for 100 homes or more spread across the Borough. Of note, the Plan proposes sites that collectively will deliver approximately 9900 homes, against the Council’s most recent needs figure of 12,740 over the plan period. The plan therefore proposes a shortfall in provision, and although development can be expected to come forward on smaller sites not identified in the plan, it remains to be seen whether such a housing target would be considered sound at examination stage. The Council intends to publish a formal draft of the new Local Plan in the coming months.
