Chapman Lily Planning have been tracking the progress of the Charmouth Neighbourhood Plan. Currently the Local Planning Authority, Dorset Council, is required to consult on the Charmouth Parish Draft Neighbourhood Plan 2021-2035 before examination can take place. The consultation process which will run from the 18th June to the 30th July 2021 provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to raise any comments or concerns that they may have about both the plans content and its preparation. Post consultation, an independent examiner will be appointed and any concerns raised through this consultation will be passed onto them for consideration.
Phillippa Gatehouse, Planning Assistant at Chapman Lily Planning, commented that ‘The Charmouth Local Plan has been a long time in the making, with the designation of the plan area approved by West Dorset Planning Authority in 2015! Once adopted the Charmouth Neighbourhood Plan will be used by Dorset Council when making planning decisions, however there is still a way to go yet before the document holds much weight in the decision making process’.
Post consultation, the next steps for the plan include an independent examination for approval before being finally presented to the community for adoption as the Charmouth Neighbourhood Plan in a local referendum.
