Chapman Lily planning are proud to have worked with Western Design Architects on behalf of CODA Music Trust based in Highcliffe, Dorset. This charitable organisation supports the social and mental wellbeing of clients through music and provides clinical services with Music Therapists. The organisation is open to all and reaches out to the most vulnerable people in society.
We submitted a pre application request which ‘smoothed’ the planning application process. The proposal was for the change of use of the locally listed redundant farm building into an exhibition space, 7 independent studio spaces, a cafe and music room / workshop space and a new entrance porch. Alterations are also proposed to the courtyard and entrance to the site which includes formalising the parking area and ‘breakout space’ with the use of appropriate hard and soft landscaping, providing a ‘rural feel’ to the site, which is within the Green Belt.
We successfully demonstrated:
• reuse of the existing building, extensions and alterations would be appropriate and not harm the openness of the Green Belt;
• the reuse of the locally listed building would maintain the ‘group value’ and preserve the future of the building; and
• the proposal would provide benefits to the rural economy and the improve the mental and social well-being of local people who use the facilities.
