Yesterday evening at the Council’s full Council Meeting it was agreed that the new Parking Standards SPD covering the former Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Councils should be adopted. The voting was 53 for, 8 Against and 12 Abstentions.
The adoption of the SPD provides continuity across the BCP area in regards to vehicle and cycle parking spaces, using a zone approach. The SPD also includes the electric vehicle parking provision for new development which the Council consider is a good step for addressing climate change and promoting sustainable transport options.
Emma Ralphs, Graduate of Chapman Lily Planning commented that ’The adoption of this SPD provides greater flexibility for planning application and facilitates opportunities for development to occur, reducing the need for parking spaces and pressure on housing in the greenbelt. I feel that this adoption would improve the clarity of parking requirements whilst supporting local travel options for BCP council in the future.’
Chapman Lily Planning are seeking clarification on how the Council will implement the new standards and what this means for current live applications.
