BCP Planning Committee resolved to approve Fortitudo Limited’s application for a scheme of 40 apartments at 17 Hinton Road in Bournemouth, overturning the officers recommendation.
The site is located at the heart of the town centre and targeted at those starting out on the housing ladder and those looking to right-size, so presents an opportunity to add to the vibrancy of the Town Centre.
Brett Spiller, Director at Chapman Lily Planning, said: ‘I’m very proud to have helped Fortitudo secure a positive resolution for this beautiful building, which makes efficient use of a central brownfield site. Some of the apartments feature home offices and residents will enjoy the benefits of private balconies, a residents only gym and plunge pool, secure integrated cycle parking and car club spaces with EV charging. The proposals accord with the aims of BCP Council’s recently adopted parking standards and in so doing provide a glimpse of the future.’
Brett added ‘I was pleased to see BCP Planning Committee grappling with the issue of housing land supply and the realisation that the need for new homes will manifest itself in taller buildings, which should be supported in appropriate, unconstrained locations, such as this. There was a good level of debate by Members, with well judged guidance from officers, resulting in a carefully balanced decision to approve subject to conditions and the completion of a S106 legal agreement.’
