Chapman Lily Planning were privileged to work with Aster, to secure planning permission for the redevelopment of the former North Dorset Council Offices in Blandford. The scheme of 40 affordable homes has been built out by Drew Smith, and we were fortunate enough to be able to revisit the scheme with Lizzie Clark of Aster.
Brett Spiller, Director at Chapman Lily Planning commented ‘A huge amount of thought went into the design at the planning stage, but it is great to see this matched by the build quality. Carved reliefs adorn the wall between the former entrance pillars, a nod to the former Norden House and the sites history. The North Dorset coat of arms is inset on the right-hand pillar. The materials, brick detailing and roof details combined with the varied form of the homes (with detached, semi-detached and terraces all present) pays homage to the local vernacular and presents a picture postcard street-scene. The homes frame a series of generous open spaces, which have allowed for the retention of mature trees, as well as accommodating naturalised play space and SUD’s features. These spaces and the trees therein act as a focal point, and one can already envisage the pride that they will engender. The brick boundary walls have been repaired and repointed, and low-level planting and stock street trees planted, ensuring succession. Well done to all involved; It is great to see this fantastic scheme nearing completion”.
